Kate's Top 10 Costume Ideas for Book Week 2022!

Kate's Top 10 Costume Ideas for Book Week 2022!

Ok so it's Kate here and I'm going to make your Book Week easy peasy!

The theme nationally is "Dreaming with Eyes Open" so here are some of my fav suggestions for costumes, and of course all are available for hire at Fancy That!

1. Sleeping Beauty

Classic children's story featuring dragons, fairies, spinning wheels and, of course, the title character Aurora, who spends a fair amount of the story snoozing until awakened from her slumber by a handsome prince.

Princess Aurora costumes are available for hire at Fancy That in both adult and child sizes, as well as Maleficent, a dragon and a prince!

2. Bananas In Pyjamas

While not technically asleep, they are definitely ready for it! Dressed in their iconic blue/white PJs, B1 and B2 are available for hire in both adult sizes and children's size 6-8yo.

3. Butterfly

When The Very Hungry Caterpillar has eaten through all the yummy delights, in the book of the same name, they go into a deep sleep, emerging from their cocoon as an amazing butterfly! A simple but effective costume combo is our butterfly wings, paired with our insect antennae and is suitable for both children and teachers.

4. Freddy Krueger

Want something a little edgier for a pre-teen/tween? How about the ultimate dream master, Freddy from A Nightmare On Elm Street? Including a mask, jumper, glove and hat he will be a standout at the Book Parade. Just don't fall asleep!

5. Cinderella

"A dream is a wish your heart makes" sings Cinderella in the beginning of the Disney adaptation of this popular fairy-tale.

Available in both adult's and children's sizing, all of our Cinderella costumes will come with a tiara, gloves and choker. You will have to find a prince to deliver you your glass slippers though!

6. The Wiggles

WAKE UP JEFF! It's a song we all know and love (or hate, depending on how often it was sung in your house) so why not be Jeff or one of the other Wiggles for Book Week? We have his iconic purple skivvy and a black wig available for hire, as well as the other Wiggles (including Emma!), Captain Feathersword and Dorothy the Dinosaur. Remember to bring your Fruit Salad for lunch time!

7. Snow White

What have we learned kids? NEVER eat apples given to you by weird old ladies knocking on your door. One bite and you will be off to dreamland and miss Book Week day at school!

Instead, dress up as Snow White (available in all sizes, kids through to plus size) and be safe - avoid all kinds of fruit that day, just to be sure

8. The Big Bad Wolf

Often found in bed in a nightgown when he's not prowling around the woods eating kids, this character makes a warm fun costume for Book Week.

9. Dorothy / Wizard of Oz

After awaking back in Kansas after a bad bump on the head, Dorothy can't believe it was all a dream... or was it?

The land of Oz is the epitome of dream-like worlds. Not only can we provide Dorothy costumes (complete with Ruby Slippers) in almost all sizes kids to plus size adult, we also stock other characters from this fantastical world such as Glinda the Good Witch, The Wicked Witch of the West, The Cowardly Lion, The Tin Man and The Scarecrow.

10. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

Just like Dorothy, perhaps Alice's visit to Wonderland was a dream? It certainly seemed so when she woke under the tree at the end of the story.

Be part of Alice's dream for Book Week by dressing up as the White Rabbit, the Queen of Hearts, the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat, the Tweedle twins or Alice herself.

Being my personal favourite children's story book of all time, you can be sure we have a tonne of Wonderland costumes for rent at Fancy That!

We have lots of other ideas to get you into the best dress ups this Book Week.

With kids costumes just $22 and adults from $33, you won't break the bank by hiring your costumes from us.

Don't leave it to the last second, come down and book your costume in advance for an easy peasy, stress free Book Week experience.

See you soon!
